Beef shouldn't be a commodity.

It should build communities.

When I sold beef direct to consumer as our business began growing we started shipping.

This was the downfall of our beef business, which taught me this all important lesson.  I had been treating beef from our local community as a commodity.

I was born to become a 4th generation cattle rancher, much of my early life was spent on our Eastern Oregon ranch and in the surrounding small towns.

The folks in these small towns depend on each other and understood the importance of community.  My grandpa Tom had a lasting impact in these communities which is still strong even now after he has passed.

Our ranch is for sale and my family has moved on to start a new life in Montana, yet the fire in my heart for the farming and ranching industry burns strong.

​The farming and ranching industries are in trouble. It's time for a massive change.

​My super power is to understand complex systems and fix them.  This has served me well in my "day job" where I work in Project Management for major Science projects.

​It's been a great career and I have  had the good fortune to work on some amazing projects with some amazing people.
​
My top 3 are the Advanced LIGO Project, which won the Nobel Prize in Physics; The Advanced Photon Source Upgrade project; and the Electron Ion Collider project.

It's line of work where every day I can help solve complex problems, but it's not my passion.

Ranching is in my blood and I know just how hard this line of work is. I know so many farmers and ranchers are out there working day in and day out, yet they never seem to get ahead.

This self reflecting and my need to serve this community of farmers and ranchers led me to start The Local Beef Club.
